Laser
Safety Standard of Laser
There is danger of losing sight when looking straight even if it is a laser of the low output.
In IEC(International Electoro-technical Commission), as for the laser equipment, the class is divided depending on the output and wavelength.(IEC60825-1)
JIS C6802 (safety standard of the laser product of Japan) conforms to IEC60825-1.
The trader who manufactures the laser equipment owes the obligation to put the warning label on the laser equipment (class 2 or more).
The emergency stop switch and the interlock circuit are necessary for the laser
equipment of class 4.
Class | Level of danger | Warning label |
Class1 | Low output(0.39ƒÊW or less roughly) that doesn't give trouble to human body. Special measures for safety are unnecessary. It is safe with an optical apparatus (binoculars etc). The laser printer, CD, and DVD, etc. correspond. | Unnecessary |
Class2 | The range is visible light(wavelength 400nm-700nm).
The output is extent that can be prevented by the blink. (about 1mW) The laser pointer for presentation etc. correspond. | Necessity |
Class3A | The radiation level is five times or less output by class 2(5mW or less roughly). The trouble can be evaded by the blink. However, it is dangerous to observe the beam directly with an optical apparatus. | Necessity |
Class3B | There is danger that the trouble occurs in eyes when the laser light enters eyes by the direct specular reflection. However, there is no possibility of causing the trouble by the diffuse reflection. The output is about 0.5W or less. | Necessity |
Class4 | The trouble occurs in eyes by irradiating the laser light beam by the diffuse
reflection. There is danger of the skin trouble (burn) and the fire occurrence, too. The output is about 0.5W or more. Many of industrial lasers for the welding and the machining correspond. | Necessity |
